Bonne fête!

The end of a journey is a cause for celebration! So it feels so fitting that we’ve arrived at our annual collection celebrating La fête nationale française. Bastille Day marks the event that triggered the start of the revolution and really brought about the France that we know and love today. So with this line we really got to indulge in all things si français.

Ink, Dusty Pink, and Cream are key colours for their aesthetic beauty as well as their symbolic nod to the French flag. French-girl designs mingle with chic Blue Illusion twists on weather-concious garments for a cosy and modish feel. This range embraces denim, stripes, and tapestry-inspired prints to bring classic French craftsmanship and femininity with beaucoup de playful accessories. Comme toujours, each piece was designed to offer added excitement and romance to your winter styling!

The classic beige trench is a French wardrobe staple.

With its timeless details and neutral palette, un trench is a piece you can wear and cherish forever. It’s durable and every outfit, casual or dressy, is instantly elevated by the simple act of putting on a trench coat. For this collection, we added parka elements, like the longer length and storm flaps, for extra coverage on rainy days. Our style tip: Always tie the belt in a knot et voilà, très chic.

Celebrate l'histoire of French fashion with this Coco-inspired cardigan.

Cosy and sophisticated, our new long-line Faux Fur Cardigan is an ode to Coco Chanel who brought houndstooth to the forefront of women’s fashion where it still reigns today. Like a Renoir painting, houndstooth will never leave the ranks of a true classic. We added our Blue Illusion finesse with a distinctive Ink colour, faux fur knit, and braided trim detailing. Wear it over this collection’s Velvet Keyhole Top for a chic and tailored look.

Bonne fête nationale!

There is nothing more on-brand than an all-out celebration of French culture. Needless to say, we are ready to slip into our party loafers and indulge in the biggest national holiday in France!

Every year on le quatorze juillet celebrations are held across France to honour the birth of la République with fireworks, floats, parades, and bien sûr wine and great food. But you don’t have to be in France to participate!

Here is a little background, and some info on where you can enjoy the festivities here in Australia:

Une histoire brève

Bastille Day commemorates the 14th of July, 1789 when, during a time of economic uncertainty and political unrest, a group of working-class Frenchmen stormed the Bastille, freeing political prisoners and sparking the Revolution. As a state prison, the Bastille became a symbol to the people of the oppressive monarchy, and the takeover likewise became a symbol of defiance against the regime.

Now, it is a day (or two) of festivities that vary colourfully across L’Hexagone. À Paris, there is a spectacular military parade on des Champs-Élysées. In Nice, they work year-round to construct elaborate floats to parade across the promenade just for this one day.

Join the Festivities in Melbourne!

Ready to join the party? We’ve got you. Blue Illusion is among the sponsors of the Bastille Day Festival in Melbourne—a cosy winter market filled with all things french! It’s the perfect opportunity to practise your language skills, eat authentic cuisine, and celebrate with wine, cheese, and entertainment. We hope to see you there!
